Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.-Mark Twain
Do you know what your wheelhouse is?
I didn’t even know what a wheelhouse was until I was single… Let me keep you up with this certain phenomenon…
Wheelhouse - Take your age and divide it in half and add 7. The age you end up with is an “acceptable” dating age.
Firstly, I call bullshit on anything or anyone that tries to tell you how you should live your life, let alone, who you should or shouldn’t date! You do you… If you like a younger partner, fill your boots! If you like them a little older, more power to ya! Connection comes in all forms and ages.
I had just turned 45 when I left my husband, so technically speaking - My wheelhouse was 29 and a half… Seems ridiculously young, I know, but hear me out on this one...
At the time I split with my ex, I had some serious confidence issues and was completely lost, so I thought, what the f*ck?!? I’ll throw my hat in the ring and see how she plays out…
Whoa, is all I have to say... There are some pretty bloody cute 29-year-up-fella’s out there in the dating world. Full disclosure… I might’ve dropped the age down a few times for research purposes ;)
Fact: Dudes, of a certain demographic, love love love older ladies! I interviewed and I asked…
Here are a few reasons why:
We know a little bit more and aren’t afraid to voice what a “little bit more” is - “A little to the left” - ”A little to the right”...that’s the spot ;)
Less hassle, so to speak, and we aren’t looking for Mr. Right! Just a Mr. Right now ;)
More going on upstairs…“More content and better conversation”, says my 20-something friend, Mitch. Truly, this is something I have heard numerous times over the last few years.
Fact: I liked younger guys for a while there, for a few reasons:
It was easier with less hassle, and they didn’t ask anything of me.
It was tons of fun.
I wanted to, so I did ;)
Moral of the story: Go out and live a little… Have fun and say yes, if it feels right! And say no, if it doesn’t!
Life is about creating memories and if you’re lucky enough to go the distance, and you’re a little old lady, rocking in your rocking chair… You can smile that secret smile and picture in your young's eye, that lovely young chap you spent Christmas Eve with, in Ireland… I’ll have to share that story one day ;)
In closing, I would like to thank a certain gentleman within my wheelhouse, who got me through the thick of my separation.
I matched with him, I met him and I connected with him on a personal level. Did I think we’d get together every once in a while for about a year? Nope… Am I glad we did? You bet… He listened to me, I listened to him, and we had quite a few kitchen dance parties. It was fun, and he could two steps with the best of them ;)

P.S. Although I have my own personal wheelhouse set at 45 and older now… I don’t regret my younger stage, whatsoever! It was fun, but now I’m interested in men who know that 3 on the tree and 4 on the floor aren’t sexual positions… I guess they could be, but you get the drift;)
